Nokia goes loony for Warner tunes
Free DRM'd music for all
by Jamie Sport
Phone maker Nokia has signed Warner Brothers Music to its download services, joining Universal and Sony on the 'Comes with Music' initiative. It hopes to sign more big names in the near future.
Nokia is bolstering its ‘Comes with Music’ service by adding music colossus Warner Brothers to its fledgling repertoire.
The Loony Toons studio joins Universal and Sony in making tracks available for download through the Nokia Music Store and its little brother, the mobile service ‘Comes with Music’, which provides unlimited free downloads for a year long period after purchase of a Finnish fone.
The download service, which was announced in December 2007, lets lucky Nokia owners download to their hearts’ content for a full 365 days, so long as they’re happy to put up with a bit of Microsoft DRM and the fact that their non-renewable subscription ends on the 366th day. To sign up again you need to buy yourself another Nokia handset.
The news comes shortly after Verizon’s deal with music store Rhapsody to provide unlimited DRM free downloads, albeit at the price of $15 per month.
