Prepare for a massive surge in demand for mobile apps, Webtrends says
Nick Booth
it's going to be a good time to be a mobile app developer
According to Webtrends' research, practically the entire marketing industry will throw its next budget at developing mobile apps and mobile web sites
WebTrends has somehow managed to get 100 UK marketing managers to stand still and answer questions, which is an amazing achievement it itself. Those upwardly mobile types never stand still – it’s worse than herding cats.
Still it was all worth it, because they’ve made an astonishing discovery.
Apparently, 37 per cent rated mobile strategy as very important to their company.
Other revelations were that 34 per cent plan to spend more than 20 per cent of next year’s marketing budget on mobile.
55 per cent see mobile marketing as a standard component of any campaign
59 per cent see that building a brand’s image is the main driver behind developing a mobile channel
55per cent see customer demand as the main driver
87 per cent plan to invest in apps and
89per cent plan to invest in a mobile website
Ione of the odder revelations was that “55 per cent believe a successful campaign will help them attract new customers”. Er, isn’t that the point of marketing? What do the other 45 per cent believe – a successful campaign will help them lose customers?
The bottom line of this research is this. Practically everyone is going to be throwing money into mobile apps and mobile web development in the next year.
