The research, conducted by online retailer Purple Gossip, for MobileB2b, suggests that mobility could destroy our nobility.
For mobile users, the toilet offers privacy and an opportunity to make a quick call or text, or to play a quick game or even to view some porn.
The survey was set out to discover Britons’ best and worst phone habits. It concluded that the most annoying mobile phone offences are generally noise-related. Apart from flushing out the menace of being forced to hold a conversation against a background toilet noises, two other rude habits emerged. More than three quarters (77 per cent) of respondents cite scrolling through ring tones in a public place as the most annoying habit. Another 71 per cent named and shamed people playing music on their phone in public.
Other ghastlies include texting while walking (94 per cent), shouting into a mobile on while on public transport (69 per cent) and interrupting face-to-face conversations to answer a call (65 per cent).
Men are the worst offenders, as 43 per cent openly conduct business discussions while on public transport, as opposed to 24 per cent of women. They are also the nosier sex, with 43 per cent admitting to reading strangers’ text messages compared to just 29 per cent of women. A shameful 74 per cent of men will ignore present company to answer a call.
Despite this, the mobile phone is Britons’ preferred form of regular communication. Half of us (46 per cent) spend over an hour on mobile phones each day, with 6 per cent of women spending over five hours a day on their phones.
Three quarters of Britons sleep with their phones, either using it as an alarm clock, or for making erotic phone calls to a loved one.
